We believe our KS3 Science programme provides our pupils with the foundations for understanding the world around them and the ability to access GCSE content both at The Heights and at their mainstream school where applicable.

We teach a breadth of topics across all three scientific disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. We encourage a growing interest in Science by teaching foundational topics such as cells, forces and chemicals in order to prepare our students for KS4 Science. Science is delivered at The Heights using a cyclical approach meaning that we revisit key topics throughout KS2, KS3 and KS4. Therefore, KS3 Science is integral to developing the working knowledge in order to access more advanced Science at a later stage. As part of our KS3 curriculum, we have included practical experiments in Science including ensuring laboratory safety and personal responsibility is instilled at every opportunity.

In order to maintain a high aspiration level for Science, we are incorporating several Science related school trips such as the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester in order to nurture a wide understanding and passion for Science. As part of this we also regularly discuss scientific careers in order to drive students towards aiming high into scientific opportunities post-16.
